I have been wanting to paint a painting of a sea star to hang in my bathroom for ages and have procrastinated like nobody's business! (Isn't that a bizarre expression.) I finally convinced myself to start this week. Do you ever do that?
It is still very much a work-in-progress but there is a canvas and it has paint on it! Here are a few shots so far:
The background - which resembles my floor tiles a bit.
The shadows
(What colour do you paint shadows?)
A first coat - not quite right
A second coat and start of texture but it needs to dry more...
Silly, quick, playing-around-with-leftover-paint-in-sketchbook Sea Star
Well, lots more work to do! How was your week? Hope it was productive for painting!
Have a great time at Paint Party Friday!
yep. i'm a big 'leftover' girl too. once i'm done with the 'big work', i use up all of my excess junk in a little book.
ReplyDeletebecause i guess it would kill me to just clean my palette.
xx,
amy
sweet...I like texture and this star is looking good can't wait to see more soon

Well Done with your start fish! Enjoying the texture. For shadow color, I tend to use cool tonse like ultramarine blue, purple, all sorts of grey etc but to avoid black and brown.
ReplyDeleteHope this helps! ;)
Week was good but busy and I love your star. Looks great. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI love the quick sketch!!
ReplyDeleteI love starfish, they're just so beautiful. this is looking good and I'll look forward to seeing it hanging in situ to see how it looks when its finished.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great. I use black for shadows. Not very original, I know. :)
ReplyDeleteThe quick sketch is great. i always use up my bits and bobs, too!
ReplyDeleteOh both your stars are lovely!!!I love starfish too!Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI too love star fish!!! yep, have to use the leftover paint!
ReplyDeletecheers, dana
What a great idea to practice one with the leftover paint. This will be great when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteWonderful creating ~ Star is great ~ Week was busy ~ LOL ~ Keeps me out of trouble ~ I just hung 3 small paintings of mine in my bathroom to cover up where old light fixture was ~ Must be the season~ ~thanks, namaste, Carol (Share the Creative Journey) and Happy PPF ^_^

Love it...simply stunning starfish! POP ART MINIS
ReplyDeleteHi Eva, I try to use up my paint with quick stuff like making a background for a page. I like your starfish! This week was way more productive than the prior! Happy PPF! xo
ReplyDeleteI love star fish, they are so magical. I usually try to use the leftover paint too.
ReplyDeleteI really like the whimsical small version and love to see the larger finished version for your bathroom .
ReplyDeleteI'm one whose terrible with so many unfinished projects but lately I am getting somewhere to completing them a little at a time....I think it's Paint Party Friday...Thanks to you and Kristin : )
Your quick sketch doesn't look like a quick sketch at all. I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a finished work rather than a sketch ... very good.Saludos
ReplyDeleteLoving your sea stars...and they've both come to life both on canvas and sketchbook! Excellent job!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for co-hosting PPF!
ReplyDeleteI totally looked forward to it again this week!
Love how you show the progression of your star painting through photos!
For my shadows, I usually mix complements together. For example, if it is a shadow on green grass, I add some red to the green. Works pretty well for me!
Love how we both have the word "Sea" in our painting titles this week, too! Woo-hoo!
TGIF!
Great work so far! I'm such a procrastinator. I love that you just went in and did it. I would still be at the thinking stage. Your "quick sketch" is wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteGetting started is the biggest hurdle. Soon you'll have it hanging in the bathroom and will be wondering why in the world you took so long to do it. :) Or is that just me?
ReplyDeleteI agree that is a strange expression :)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the colors you're using - I can't wait to see it finished!
xo
Kristin
Very nice so far Eva! I love Star Fish!
ReplyDeleteAnother "use till the last drop" girl here. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome background. Enjoy working on your star.
wonderful to see the layers being built. can't wait to see the finished version hanging on your bathroom wall
ReplyDeleteEva, your work is an inspiration. Yes I have the same feeling as you and sometimes I have to convince myself to work on it today.. it is all about committing. One of my goal is to be able to paint on canvas.. I am excited to see your finish work.. it's definitely a great start. For shadows in watercolor, I use any blue + black or blue + those umber browns.
ReplyDeleteI love being able to see the process other artists go by- I work in a similar way building layers and layers until it feels complete. And how wonderful to have your own sea star to enjoy each day in your home!

awesome starfish! and I am really bad at procrastinating too.
ReplyDeleteI like to paint my shadows in purple!
ReplyDeleteI think it is awesome! And, then you sketched one too? Fabulous!

I am a BIG procrastinator when it comes to making art or other creative things for my own home. Isn't that what they say about a plumber? That his own pipes are always clogged? That might be a bit of a strane expression too...:)
ReplyDeletesuch a fun idea. i think you are off to a grand 'star't.
ReplyDeletethank you for your ppf visit.
I like using blue and purple for shadows. Nice start here!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Eva, loving this work in progress!!! I don't think I've seen you paint on canvas before so I can't wait to see how this turns out!!!! The 'quick' sea star that you painted at the end is too cute!!! Also loved your sketch book entry, it looks even better in person LOVE those flowers!!! Beautiful work!!! :0)
ReplyDeleteA fun painting for the bathroom Eva.
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend, Ev
ps. yes, never thought of it but it is a funny expression :)
