I have been thinking about the New Year, 2012, arriving imminently. I usually like to take time between Christmas and New Years to think and plan - though this year I am WAY behind!
A few years ago I discovered the idea of the "Word of the Year" through a post by Christine Kane and the idea resonated with me. Instead of resolutions, the idea is to choose a word to guide your year.
My first try was FLOURISH. Not sure that that one worked well. My second try was CREATE in 2010 and Wow! I created more that year than I ever have in my life. I joined Creative Every Day and I did create every day - filling 4+ blank books with drawing and paintings.
2011 was PROPEL and I did take actions that helped to propel me, and in some cases other people, forward. In many ways, it was business related but not in all ways. Paint Party Friday arose partly because of this word. We hoped it would propel us forward in our painting efforts and it sure has helped me (and I hope others, too)!
For 2012 I have chosen CONNECT. I want to connect with people, my city*, my work, my passions and myself. As with last year, I wanted to paint an image that in some way reflected my WotY (Word of the Year). This was one of the ideas that came to mind...
CONNECT 2012 |
It makes me think of how all the circles in my life connect to me and to each other...
I didn't expect to have anything painted for PPF this week but now I do!
I will try and visit everyone over the weekend but it is still busy so maybe I will see you "Next Year"! Have a great New Year's celebration and all the best to you in 2012!
* more about this project later...
I love your word and your painting, I've also picked a word for the year. Happy 2012!

What a great word and I love the connectivity of circles. Very nice Eva. Yes, your propel work has certainly propelled me this year. I've painted more than I ever have in my life, thanks to PPF and it's hostess Eva and Kristin. Happy New Year Eva to you and yours. I haven't thought of a word because when I do, I don't usually stick to it. Tee hee. enjoy your new year celebration. We, husband and I stay home and make our plans together. I'm making fondue for new years.
ReplyDeleteI love Connect as a word and the idea of a word instead of a resolution is a cracker.... for me I think it would be embrace... I am going to just embrace everything that comes my way... good and bad... thanks for letting me off the hook for resolutions!!! Like your idea much better...xx
ReplyDeleteYou and Kristin have certainly propelled me this year, so that word choice was brilliant. Now you have got me thinking about choosing a word for myself...
ReplyDeleteGreat painting, I love interconnected circles, they are magical.

Happy New Year! Love "propel", will put it in my 2013 list. :D For 2012 I chose "expansive". Let´s see where our words take us. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the connecting circles, Eva. They are bright and colorful. Faye
ReplyDeletePropel--that was a great word, so powerful. Connect will be a great word, too. I think that connection is the essence of what we really want in this life, so you will have a great adventure with it. Love your blog. Now following. Thanks for leaving a comment on mine.

ReplyDeleteI love your word - connection is one of my top values :) and of course your 2010 word is my 2012 one lol

What a great choice EVA! And I enjoyed reading how your previous chosen words affected the years prior. Let hope for good connections this year (hmmmm...I just noticed how your background is all connected too with the stars in the constellations!)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Eva! I love the word you've picked. I also really love your painting. It is symbolic, with all the circles touching each other but changing their color. It sort of represents how when you connect with another person, it changes you both. Very nice!

Great word and great painting! I agree with Jaime about them touching each other but changing color. I think of those overlaps are a great representation of the relationships we form with people. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Eva! I LOVE LOVE this post! Very profound and the artwork is perfect for the mantra: Connect. Connecting with one another and supporting each other in our artistic pursuits is very important. Thank you for this lovely post.
ReplyDeleteI love this post, EVA... So beautifully said (and your painting is a wonderful illustration of the sentiment). Our conversation the other day inspired me to choose a "Word of the Year" too :)

p.s. I loooove the new blog look - How perfect!
I had to have two words:New Delights.I'm starting this journal very soon :)
ReplyDeleteHi Eva and Thanks for visiting and being one of the founders of PPF. I like the word "connect" and then I saw your painting and I was "connected" in more ways than you know. I've been doodling, seeing and drawing circles within circles for a while now, even when I texture with modeling paste, its circles within circles -- overlapping etc. You are stretching the limits my friend, you are increasing your sphere of influence and your realm of atmosphere; soon because of your openness to creativity and no boundaries on your blog or on PPF, all areas in these arenas in your life are overlapping - and "connect" is quite the word and have you noticed that all your words are "action" words (another story) -- You are attracting to you those meant to be in your sphere of influence. I think "to be determined" was the intended name of your blog from the beginning -- again -- isn't it all to be determined and once in another scope or sphere when we think we have all the answers; along comes another sphere (circle) that overlaps or connects. Lovely, great conceptual-ity and inspiration Blessings Terri www.morningdewdrops.typapad.com
ReplyDeleteThis is a great word!! Wishing you a wonderful 2012 ;)
ReplyDeleteWord of the Year is new to me this year--it's interesting to read about how your words of past years turned out! Happy new year; wishing you blessings in all your "connections!"
ReplyDeleteYour word, Propel, has helped me to connect this past year. I love the PPF! Wonderful new header, BTW!
