Sunday Sketching - Dreaming of Fishies

One of my favourite activities is snorkeling. Not something I can do much of in the cold white North. It doesn't take much to make me happy, just fishies - even a few Sergeant Majors will do it - however the more the merrier! It has been a while since I have been South and I have been yearning to go again. Finally I've scheduled a week in March on the Mayan Riviera where it sounds like there is good snorkeling off the beach at the resort.  Meanwhile, I dream of....

(Initial Pencil Sketch)

I wasn't around the past few weeks of Sunday Sketching with Sophia at Blue Chair Diary and I have seriously missed all of you and the sketching! I'm looking forward to today's visit! Hope this finds you all well!

  3. Ooh look at all the pretty fishies. I wonder what they make of us strange intruders in their world.

  14. Eva...I am glad to 'see' you :)
This drawing is so fun...I have never been snorkling, and I have to admit I am a tad envious of your upcoming trip...sounds so warm and colorful...so much the opposite of winter :)
I like your zen clover, too. Never found a 4 leaf clover, but I won one in OWOH and I am pretty excited about that. I enjoyed the love story.
    Love <3

  15. You can really see the curiousity in the snorkler's eyes! And what better medium to use than watercolors for this piece!

  17. Lucky, about the vacay, but I am terrified of swimming in the ocean so can't say it sounds fun from my perspective. I love the yellow and how it pops against the blues. Great job with composition, it really pulls one toward the snorkeler.

  20. Hi Eva thanks for your comments on my latest painting, in answer to your question yes I do varnish every painting. But I take my photos before I do it as I use a couple of coats of gloss varnish and it's harder to photograph after doing that. I've tried matte varnish but I prefer the gloss, it gives it a lovely shine and makes the colours pop alot more. It also protects the painting and makes it easier to wipe if it gets dusty! :0)
