Sunday Sketching 02Jan2011 SBP Cover and More Pages

The deadline approaches. Argh!!

I have been sketching like a mad woman trying to get it all finished!!  I am making progress and I "think" I might have enough ideas to complete it. Here is what I've done today and in the past few days (as always double-clicking makes the image clearer):

I wanted to keep most of the sketchbook slightly humorous if possible but this one I wanted to do even though it is so very sad and horrid and not in the least bit funny.

Today I am continuing to work on this in between taking down the tree and putting away my extensive decorations and checking on your Sunday Sketches. Hopefully by next Sunday, my sketches will be of something other than "I'm sorry I forgot you"!

Sunday Sketching 12Dec10 SBP Keys and Steak

I'm happy to see that Sunday Sketches with Sophia at Blue Chair Diary is back and it looks like there are a record number of participants this week! I must get busy visiting after this post and between Sunday chores and errands.

I had high hopes for making lots of progress on my SBP this week but that didn't happen. I finally got around to doing these today. There was some other progress on Friday night though. Friends were over and I told them about the Sketchbook Project and a brainstorming session ensued with some new ideas (including the second one below) generated. I still don't have as many "I'm sorry I forgot you" ideas as pages but it's getting closer!.

SBP - Budgies, Lawnmowers, Laundry and Wild Travelling Purses

Thanks so much to those of you who had suggestions for me last week! Please keep them coming!! (40% of the book and the cover still to go.) I tried some today and earlier in the week and managed to complete four more pages. Just over a month to go to submit to The Sketchbook Project!

This theme "I'm sorry I forgot you" continues to challenge me. Ideas come but many are just not drawable by me - too complex for a "snapshot" in a one page spread. How to draw it? So those sit even if they may be brilliant. Sometimes the challenge is in my drawing ability versus the complexity. Often I'll try those - the laundry line was like that. It's okay but I need to learn more about perspective. Other times the ideas are great but repetitive which I'm trying to avoid at this point. (Like feeding pets...I did dogs. I guess I could try drawing that idea with cats, fish or gerbils but the dog had the most expressive eyes!) So if you were wonderful enough to suggest an idea which I didn't use, those are most likely the reasons why I haven't (or haven't YET). Thank you so much and please keep any suggestions coming!

I'm really missing Sunday Sketches this week as Sophia is off to a Blog Tea Party in Scotland. I so enjoy seeing what everyone in the group creates every week. Oh well back to household chores or maybe I can figure out a way to draw "I'm sorry I forgot you... were having your party today".

Sunday Sketching 21Nov2010 SBP Jellyfish, People, Ideas, the Pot and the Empty Roll

I am getting a little fretful about The Sketchbook Project and have decided that if I want to

a) finish on time

b) get all my Christmas preparations done

c) enjoy a relaxing Christmas

I have to ramp up speed and progress. And for me, accountability helps. I know Sophia didn't create Sunday Sketching check-ins exactly for this purpose. I think she also wanted to encourage sketching actually on Sundays (I think). But it is such a wonderful group that I hope you don't mind if I report my progress here. Somehow knowing that I am showing it, seems to get it actually done. Two of these were done today and the others were created earlier in the week. 

How many of you are (still) working on the SBP? How many pages left? (Are you panicking yet?) Do accountability and check-ins help you?

I may need help with my challenging theme. So far ideas are still forming but I have 19 spreads, 2 half pages and the cover yet to do! So any ideas for "I'm sorry I forgot you" that you'd like to see me try to do? (I've eliminated a bunch of my ideas since they need to be doable by me, not repetitive and not too negative ideally.) I've thought up lots of depressing ideas but I'd rather go with silliness or humour. Thanks for any and all comments!

Sunday Sketching 14Nov2010 SBP Play and Lest we Forget

Sunday Sketching with Blue Chair Diary is not only a fun group to participate in but a great way for me to keep working on my Sketchbook Project. Having a place to check-in on it adds accountability for myself and I sure need that to make progress! January will be here in no time and the empty pages still daunt me. But there are 2 less empty spreads as of today! Thanks again, Sophia, for hosting this great group!

I am also thrilled I used new ideas, inspired by the week instead of digging into my stash of "I'm sorry I forgot you" thoughts. There aren't too many there so it is great to keep the ones I have for those brain dead Sundays when I can't think of anything else!

Inspiration here is obvious:

On Monday, I played with crayons for AEDM, creating a butterfly turned moth and my SBP pal Lisa commented on forgetting about her crayons. Aha! Another idea was formed! Thanks Lisa!

Sunday Sketching 24Oct2010 SBP The Mice and String Theory

Still combining my Sunday Sketching with my efforts on the Sketchbook Project. So far, I continue to have ideas for my theme of "I'm sorry I forgot you" but it IS a challenge with 30 pages remaining. Thanks again to my friend Ann who brainstormed with me during our dinner conversation last week. I hesitate to use my totally depressing "forgotten"  ideas - they are far from inspiring. Finding "lighter" ideas is far more difficult!  

On that lighter note, here are my two sketches this week. (As always double-clicking on these pencil sketches makes them clearer)

Sunday Sketching 17Oct2010 SBP The Squirrel and St. Anthony

My Sunday Sketches continue to be focused on The Sketchbook Project. Still a lot of pages to go and not that many weeks! Yikes!!

I was having dinner with my friend Ann this week, telling her of this project, my efforts to date and my challenging "I'm sorry I forgot you" theme. She had just been lamenting the fact that her efforts at planting tulips were already being sabotaged by squirrels. She took both conversations, put them together and came up with this thought! Thank you, Ann, for helping me fill another spread with this great idea!! 

Both of these are painted as I am sketching every second spread and gessoing the ones in between so the ink doesn't show through the pages. Thinking about forgotten and missing items, I came up with this partially collaged idea about Saint Anthony - Patron Saint of Lost and Missing Things. 

Seven pages down, thirty-two or thirty-three to go! What a challenge! (Is anyone cutting out pages??) It is great to have my friend Lisa as my Sketchbook buddy, and Sunday Sketching as a place to post updates and all the great participants here to help and encourage me to keep going!

Sunday Sketching 10Oct2010 Two Efforts for my SBP

For some reason dogs seemed to want to be sketched today. Why? Who knows!?I had thought the first one would be my cat Yuri looking up at me but nope, it had to be a dog! Which was great because it gave me the idea for the second sketch which wouldn't have worked at all with a cat!

So I have two sketches to show you today for my Sketchbook Project with the "I'm sorry I forgot you" theme. As always double clicking improved the quality as the scanner dislikes pencil. (Sigh, when will I get the courage to just work in pen.....)

Maybe all of you knew about this and I just wasn't paying attention, or I'm sorry I forgot (if it wasn't for that "you" this would be an easier theme! ) that you can peruse all the participants and upload your effort to the Art House Coop site. So I did.

Sunday Sketching for the SBP "How very unlike me"

My sketching continues in my new little moleskine for The Sketchbook Project. Participating in Sunday Sketching at Blue Chair Diary is great motivation to get something accomplished for the SBP! As many of you have noted, the pages of these Moleskines are not very thick and ink bleeds or seeps through. I skipped a page between the last sketches to avoid that but what to do with these "in between" pages? I know some people have been gluing in better paper or rebinding the book and I am so impressed with their efforts. I needed something simpler and so decided to paint the "in between" pages with gesso , then sketch and paint them.

Here is my first attempt at that:

My theme I'm sorry I forgot you is already starting to be a challenge (or the ideas I come up with are downright depressing and/or too abstract to draw). How is your sketching going? Are the ideas flowing like water? Or are they seeds that refuse to germinate?

Sunday Sketching - Starting the Sketchbook Project

With a little friendly arm twisting from Lisa of Priti Studios, I signed up to do The Sketchbook Project. I chose the "random" theme, or in other words, I let them choose. My theme is "I'm sorry I forgot you". I'm also interpreting it as "I'm sorry, I forgot you ....". And finishing the sentence off. And that is how I started. (Not on the first page as I wanted to work up to something brilliant - ha! Well, we'll see if that happens but sure enough I screwed up this first drawing. And the only part in ink so it wasn't easy to correct. I forgot the first word of my theme! Talk about needing to warm up!! Okay enough babbling, on to the sketch!)

As always with my scanner, it is a little faint to see. Double clicking does make it clearer! 

Have all you Sunday Sketchers joined the SBP (my very obvious acronym/abbreviation)? Are you loving or hating your themes? What is your theme? A full journal on one subject may be a challenge indeed!
